The Jefferson County Historical Society is excited to open three new exhibits in September at the Museum of Art + History.  

Eden Bloom from the Curating Empathy project, the exhibit highlights the housing crisis through photographs, narratives, and objects. Visitors will gain insight into the challenges and resilience of unhoused neighbors, as well as the agencies that support them.

Through photographs, narratives, and artifacts, visitors will discover how Filipino Americans shaped the maritime culture and economy of the Pacific Northwest over more than a century. The exhibit highlights labor, service, foodways, and traditions that connect these communities to the region’s history.

“Over the past 35 years my art practice has continued to evolve and thread its way through time and place. Walking is important to my process. It connects the external world and the inner world of the studio. On my ritual paths I notice daily and seasonal changes, recording what attracts my attention, ‘navigating’ my way through time.”

The museum collection is how we know what we know about Jefferson County. The collections team is working hard year-round, but this is the time we peek out from behind our books and boxes and celebrate the work going on behind the scenes!

On the first Saturday of every month, the Museum of Art + History opens its doors for Free First Saturday, offering free admission to visitors from 11AM – 7PM.

This exhibit tells the stories of early settlement throughout Jefferson County, from Port Townsend to Brinnon to Irondale to the Westside, and all communities in between.
