Martha Worthley’s work for this exhibit spans nearly 40 years of creating home in Port Townsend. She arrived in town a few years after graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute, and she never shook that Bay Area love of personal and figurative work.From the beginning, Martha pulled artifacts and pieces of her own life as subject matter for painting and other creative endeavors. Grand Re-Opening Weekend | April 3–5, 2026 Celebrate the Newly Imagined Museum of Art + History with all-new exhibits on the theme of Home, major accessibility upgrades, a new children’s play space, and an exhibition with works by Martha Worthley. The Jefferson County Historical Society is excited to open three new exhibits in September at the Museum of Art + History.  

Eden Bloom from the Curating Empathy project, the exhibit highlights the housing crisis through photographs, narratives, and objects. Visitors will gain insight into the challenges and resilience of unhoused neighbors, as well as the agencies that support them.

“Over the past 35 years my art practice has continued to evolve and thread its way through time and place. Walking is important to my process. It connects the external world and the inner world of the studio. On my ritual paths I notice daily and seasonal changes, recording what attracts my attention, ‘navigating’ my way through time.”

This exhibit tells the stories of early settlement throughout Jefferson County, from Port Townsend to Brinnon to Irondale to the Westside, and all communities in between.
