Did Jack London Really Spend the Night in Port Townsend’s City Jail? On Thursday, October 1, Jefferson County Historical Society (JCHS) staff will put one of Port Townsend’s most persistent legends under the microscope in Lore + London: The (Un)Definitive Story.

Understories presents a collection of sculptures by artist John Strohbehn. Spanning more than a decade of carving wood and stone, the exhibition explores the dialogue between artist and material, with each sculpture responding to the natural character, history, and possibilities of the wood or stone from which it was created.

The Port Townsend Community Printshop is a volunteer-run nonprofit offering shared equipment, studio space, and classes in screen printing, lithography, letterpress, block printing, etching, darkroom photography, and more. This exhibition features work by artists who use the Printshop, from first-time printmakers to experienced professionals.

Along with Washington State Parks, JCHS is excited to be co-hosting Moments That Made US, a special panel exhibition during the America 250 commemoration that explores how generations of Americans have given meaning to the ideals set out in the Declaration of Independence.

Martha Worthley’s work for this exhibit spans nearly 40 years of creating home in Port Townsend. She arrived in town a few years after graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute, and she never shook that Bay Area love of personal and figurative work.From the beginning, Martha pulled artifacts and pieces of her own life as subject matter for painting and other creative endeavors.
