 The McIllroy Button Collection

Visitors view the button exhibit.Marguerite McIllroy started collecting buttons in the early 1930s. Eventually, her collection grew to almost a thousand buttons of fabric, metal, celluloid, wood, porcelain, glass, rubber and other materials. Mrs. McIllroy was the wife of Lt. Col. Fred W. McIllroy, the Fort Worden Commandant from 1950 to 1953. This popular collection was donated to JCHS in 1981 and was on exhibit for many years in the JCHS research library in the Port Townsend city hall building.  It has been stored away since removal for the building's restoration. View these little masterpieces in the Collections Corner in the Fire Hall Gallery in the museum.
